The Avoided Conversion Cerrado is a grouped program located in the Cerrado biome, the main breadbasket of Brazil. The measurement of carbon stocks in the Avoided Conversion Cerrado REDD Program assess three carbon pools: above-ground biomass, below-ground biomass and, soil organic carbon (SOC). Three variables were used to estimate the soil carbon content: bulk density, organic carbon content and soil depth. The samples were collected by digging until 30 cm of soil at the stipulated points, and the samples were sent to a specialized laboratory for analysis of the main components. For each sampling point, the corresponding carbon stock was calculated using the equation from Veldkamp, 1994.
